ABOUT

Padaric Kolander is a mixed media artist primarily working in drawing, painting and printmaking. His work mainly focuses on layering personal observations and experiences with people, plants and animals arranged seemingly out of context.

Padaric Kolander grew up in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas and earned his BFA from Eastern New Mexico University. He has exhibited across the country and is a recipient of the Hunting Art Prize. Padaric currently lives in Austin, where he splits his time as a graphic designer and photographer for a local stone company, and working in his home studio.

b. Worthington, Minnesota, 1979

STATEMENT

I am a contemporary artist observing our ridiculous, willful ignorance while I eat and drink and draw funny pictures on the table cloth. My work is largely based on personal observations and experiences.

I begin with small studies and renderings meant to translate these into different possible interpretations. Elements are taken out of context and recombined into new environments where they are invariably reinterpreted with different twists and meanings through common symbols, misleading clues, apparent non sequiturs and juxtoposition.

My primary mediums of drawing, painting and printmaking similarly evolve, influence and inform eachother as I continue to explore new compositions and techniques while revisiting, improving or abandoning old ones.
